Dermatology and Allergy Care for Dogs & Cats in Doral, FL

Skin issues can be frustrating, for pets and for the people who care about them. Whether it’s constant itching, recurring ear infections, or skin that just never seems to fully clear up, these problems often need a closer look to get real answers.

At Happy Tails Veterinary Care, our team takes a more thorough, thoughtful approach to dermatology. Instead of just managing symptoms, we focus on understanding what’s causing the issue and how to bring your pet lasting relief.

Care Led by Experience and Special Interest

Dermatology is an area of strong interest to Dr. Caraballo. She is a member of both the Latin American Society of Dermatology and the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, and brings that experience into each case.

Recognizing the Signs

Ongoing itching and skin inflammation are often signs of underlying allergies, including atopic dermatitis. Recurrent ear infections are also commonly linked to allergies.

Other symptoms may include:

  • Redness, scratching, or irritated areas on the skin
  • Constant licking and grooming
  • Thickened skin or a rough, buildup texture
  • Recurrent ear infections or ongoing ear discomfort
  • Watery eyes, sneezing, or other mild respiratory signs
  • Occasional digestive upset

For some pets, these symptoms come and go with the seasons. For others, the reaction may persist year-round, depending on the underlying cause.

Looking Beyond the Itch

Skin and ear issues don’t always have a simple cause. Allergies, infections, parasites, and underlying health imbalances can all play a role, and sometimes more than one factor is involved at the same time.

We take the time to step back and look at the full picture, what you’re seeing at home, how long it’s been going on, what’s been tried before, and how your pet is responding. This process helps us move toward solutions that actually work, rather than short-term fixes.

Allergy Testing and Advanced Diagnostics

When needed, we offer allergy testing and diagnostic tools to better understand what’s triggering your pet’s symptoms. This may include:

  • Allergy testing
  • Skin and ear cytology
  • Video otoscopy for a closer look inside the ear canal
  • Evaluation for infections, parasites, or underlying conditions

These tools help guide more targeted treatment plans and take the guesswork out of ongoing skin issues.

Long-Term Relief

Our goal is to create a plan that helps reduce flare-ups, improve comfort, and make day-to-day life easier for both you and your pet. That might include a combination of medical treatment, prevention, and, when appropriate, a more in-depth look at underlying factors through functional medicine.

When to Schedule a Visit

If your pet is scratching, licking, chewing, or dealing with ongoing ear or skin issues, it’s worth taking a closer look. These problems rarely resolve on their own and often become more uncomfortable over time.
