Doris Caraballo
Veterinarian & Founder, Happy Tails Veterinary Care
Dr. Doris Caraballo is the founder and veterinarian of Happy Tails Veterinary Care, where she is dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized care with an emphasis on prevention, early detection, and long term individualized approach.
Dr. Caraballo graduated from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña in the Dominican Republic. She subsequently completed the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) certification program and further advanced her clinical training through a rotating internship at Tuskegee University in Alabama, with experience in Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Surgery.
Throughout her career, Dr. Caraballo has pursued extensive continuing education and advanced training, with a special interest in veterinary dermatology and the long-term management of allergic skin disease. She has completed multiple internships and externships both in the United States and internationally, expanding her knowledge in the diagnosis and management of chronic and complex dermatologic conditions.
Her approach to allergic disease focuses on identifying and managing contributing factors through comprehensive evaluation, allergy testing when appropriate, allergen-specific immunotherapy, nutrition, and individualized long-term treatment strategies. Her goal is not simply to manage symptoms, but to improve each patient's comfort, skin health, and overall quality of life.
Recognizing that health extends beyond the treatment of an individual condition, Dr. Caraballo has also completed a Fellowship in Anti-Aging, Metabolic and Functional Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). She incorporates principles of functional and integrative medicine into her veterinary practice, considering nutrition, lifestyle, metabolic health, chronic inflammation, and other factors that may contribute to disease.
This comprehensive approach is particularly important to Dr. Caraballo when caring for senior pets, where her focus is on maintaining mobility, comfort, cognitive and metabolic health, and overall quality of life throughout the aging process.
At Happy Tails Veterinary Care, Dr. Caraballo combines conventional veterinary medicine with a thoughtful, integrative approach tailored to the individual needs of each patient. She believes that successful veterinary care is built on prevention, careful diagnostics, client education, and a strong partnership between the veterinarian and the pet's family.
Dr. Caraballo is an active member of professional organizations including the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA), American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M), American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology (AAVD), and American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA), among others.
